Date Title Summary
20-Jan-2009 Hobbit BeBox #58 for Auction

Cameron Mac Millan has decided to sell one of his two Hobbit BeBoxen, serial number 9308000058. It runs a very early version of BeOS in which the San Jose Sharks logo appears on-screen rather than the Be logo. It's fully functional, in very good cosmetic shape and has been verified working, but is being sold as-is due to its age.

14-Apr-2008 Second Most Beautiful Computer ... Ever.

Thom Holwerda over at OSNews has voted the BeBox the second most beautiful computer ever made.

21-Jan-2008 13 Free BeBoxen

Former Be Inc employee Michael Alderete recently offloaded 13 BeBoxen at the Vintage Computer Festival in Mountain View. The price? FREE. I'm guessing a few USA-based readers might be kicking themselves about missed opportunities ...

14-Nov-2007 Steve Sakoman joins GumStix Inc

Former Be Inc. co-founder and the man responsible for the Hobbit BeBox, Steve Sakoman has joined small form-factor computer company, Gumstix Software, as a project leader.

19-Apr-2007 Farewell comp.sys.be.announce

Another piece of BeBox history, the comp.sys.be.announce Usenet newsgroup, will be removed on 23 April 2007, after the formal Request for Discussion (RFD) for its removal was passed without comment.

2-Apr-2007 Because 15 processors per person is not enough

Joe Palmer has been a pretty quiet blogger of late ... if you believe his site, (and ignore the date of his post) this is apparently because he's been busy building a 16 processor BeBox!

11-Feb-2007 Photos of early Australian BeBoxen

Alex Dawson has put up some great photos of a Rev5 and Rev6 BeBox from the University of Western Australia. They provide a great side-by-side comparison of the evolution of the BeBox hardware in its early days. From a historical point of view, these BeBoxen are of particular interest, as they were owned by early BeOS developer, Peter N Lewis, of Stairways Software. Peter developed probably the first web server for the BeOS during the early developer releases (around the time of BeOS 1.1dr5!)

14-Jan-2007 The Tale of Two BeBoxen

There are lots of holes in our understanding of differences in the construction and design of different versions of the BeBox. Mark Jerde has created a thorough side-by-side pictorial comparison of his two BeBoxen - one a Rev 5 the other a Rev 6 that provide us with further insight into the differences.

18-Jun-2006 Interview with the BeBox Bezel Designer

The Digibarn Computer Museum managed to track down and interview Mark Brinkerhoff, designer of the distinctive bezel for the BeBox case.

8-Jun-2006 Snag a piece of history - Hobbit BeBox on eBay
