BeBox News from 2004

Genisi have released their PowerPC based Open Desktop Workstation, based on the Pegasos II. It's quite a neat package, and comes preconfigured with your choice of several flavours of Linux, or the MorphOS. Haiku is reported as one of the many OSs still in the process of being ported. If we ever see a Haiku port, could this machine, as a PowerPC based machine, lay claim to being the next BeBox?

BeGroovy has reported on "the shattering of the 10Mbit barrier" for PowerPC network cards under the BeOs. Patrick Lafarguette has recently ported his 3Com 920 driver to PPC, and has added support for the 905B chipset to it. Apparently, this is one of the most common 100Mbit network card chipsets in existance.

Eugenia over at OSNews has compiled together her own brief history of the BeOS. There are some great anecdotes about the early days of the BeBox and the BeOS.

It seems the be.com domain has finally been sold, unfortunately not to a BeOS fan, or even to a company that is going to use the domain. Instead it now points to one of those infuriating content-free portal pages.
