Technical Specifications for the BeBox
BeBox Processor Boards
The BeBox includes two printed circuit assemblies:
- A main processor Board for the two PowerPC 603/603e CPUs, DRAM, and
expansion slots
- An I/O board that contains most of the I/O connectors
UPDATE: Please see the note of caution about this diagram.

This diagram shows the major blocks of the BeBox system. The dotted line
shows the connector interface between the main processor board and the I/O
board. The diagram is arranged for display on smaller monitors.
Note of Caution
I have recently (March 2001) received information from Peter Folk, a contractor
for Be Inc, highlighting errors in the above block diagram.
Peter Folk has spent some time looking into getting the BeBox IO card to work
with a normal PC, which led to the discovery of a few errors in the block
diagram.
In particular:
- 8-bit DAC is not a MAX186, it is a MAX505ACWG9606 Quad 8-bit DAC, which
would be abbreviated as MAX505.
- I/R u-controller is not Zilog Z786C04, it is a Zilog Z86E0812PSC1866,
which would be abbreviated as Zilog Z86E08.
This is true on a rev-6 BeBox; it is possible that a previous revision used the
Zilog Z86C04, but not that the DAC was a MAX186 (it's an ADC, used
elsewhere on the board!).
So thanks Peter, and to everyone else, use the above diagram with caution!
